HDMI Ethernet was included in the spec 15 years ago and not a single consumer device (that I am aware of) ever implemented it.

Idk why this is so often citied in Smart TV boogeyman arguments.

Because it's there and available should they ever want to use it, and most people would not know that the HDMI cable is potentially another network cable.

This maps with experience taking the anti-seizure medication Topamax in college.

I trialed for a month it as an off-label migraine preventative on recommendation from my neurologist.

Topamax can dampen neuronal activity in the language area of the brain for some people.

It was a terrifying experience, but it was also a valuable one as it changed the way I view intelligence.

About 10 days in, my writing and speech skills had devolved to that of a primary school aged child. I tried to type a text message and struggled to come up with simple words like “and”. My speech slowed down considerably.

The terrifying thing was that my internal world was still as complex and meaningful as it was before. All of the emotions I felt were real and legitimate. My cognition outside of language was intact, I could do math just fine and conceptualize and abstract problems.

In spite of this, I was unable to convey what I was feeling and thinking to the outside world. It felt like I was trapped inside my own body.

After recovering, my intuitive understanding of the link between language and intelligence was changed forever.

See the following for more info on Topamax/Topiramate language impairment: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10072-008-0906-5

Scary, but cool!

To clarify "cognition outside of language" and "unable to convey"... did it purely affect external communication? Were you able to think "in language"? Do you tend to rely on thinking "in language" (whether inner monologue, describing problems like drafting prose, or otherwise)?

My internal dialog was impacted, not just external.

To get retrospectively nerdy, it felt like switching from a raw text based lookup system to a knowledge graph / vector search.

Instead of accessing memories / concepts at a raw text level, I was pulling up lots of metadata and making links to these fusiform concepts that it was invoking. I would then try to find the words to describe what the links were conveying.

That’s fascinating. I know there are a few different kinds of “thinkers” out there. Conceptual, visual, language. I wonder if temporarily devolving language center capability would change someone’s thinking model

You are very important research subject, pls share more about your experience to the world , or try to be part of some research/project.

Was your understanding of language also impaired?

No, it was not. My ability to process information aurally, textually, and visually was unaffected.

Did you write more about that experience somewhere?

This seems to corroborate my feeling that aptitude with language is a very poor proxy for intelligence, although it's often used as one. My own experience is that I'm less struggling to find the right words and sounds more clever at the times when my brain is actually empty and I'm "not there", and at the contrary the more "self-aware" I am and the more I struggle to articulate my thoughts, as if my brain (or ego?) was stepping in the way and slowing me down by trying to supervise what I'm saying too closely, making me sounds dumb.

I have not, but I really should consider it, so thanks for the suggestion. Even if just for my own processing.

The phenomena you’re describing sounds similar to how I experience ADHD in conversation.

The naming schema actually tripped me up for a week or so.

My brain's initial conception of the concepts was earth-relative, so I mapped it as:

Sol = big, it's the sun Luna = medium, in-between sun and earth, space Terra = small, terrestrial

Pretty weird when the moon is as much between earth and sun as the earth is between the moon and the sun.

And when it’s in between we cannot even see it (unless it’s exactly in line).

And when it’s in between we cannot even see it (when it’s exactly in line).

We can see it’s there though - I’d say that also counts.

I believe you were referring to one kind of eclipsed and with my subtle edit I was referring to a different kind of eclipse :)

I can think of one single class of eclipse where the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun (the original comment was about “in-between sun and earth”).

Sometimes Earth is the one that is in between.

Going to start a conspiracy theory that there’s a secret eclipse where the moon goes behind the sun and they won’t let us see it

It tripped me up because I was going by distance. I thought Terra was the base model and Luna was the mid model because it’s further away.

Same here. Thought Luna was for “moonshots” and sol for.. sunshots? While keeping Terra earthly.

But alas

It's because they take PCBs spec'ed for micro-usb and just replace the port with USB-C.

HDMI Ethernet was never adopted or implemented on consumer devices.

Source?

I work in the industry.

It's kind of hard to prove a negative, so I'll reverse the question:

Show me a source / proof that says that a single retail device ever implemented HDMI HEC.

Not true. Opus and Sonnet 4.6 support 1m context on Bedrock.

I was keeping mine alive on life support until about two years ago when I updated to the Samsung 5K display.

Loved the extra screen real estate of the 30" ACD and it's a beautifully designed product that I enjoyed having on my desk.

In its last year or two the backlight wear started to result in colors to become uneven. Blues were less vibrant and reds had tint issues.

Was also difficult to justify the power draw, it had a 150w power supply.

Okay Gemini

Back tap is an accessibility feature, not intended for general public use.

Accessibility features are intended for general public use and they should work.

Specially on Apple devices, where common customization features are tucked away in the Accessibility menu.

I use it all of the time! I actually love it but I use it for grayscale mode, nothing actually critical. And yeah it triggers randomly but I am never upset to be without color.

Hi Felix, this looks like an incredible tool. I've been helping non-tech people at my org make agent flows for things like data analysis—this is exactly what they need.

However, I don't see an option for AWS Bedrock API in the sign up form, is it planned to make this available to those using Bedrock API to access Claude models?
