The real security risk is thinking that just because you have an internal RFC 1918 address space your security has improved.
It's been a decade+ since a firewall being considered a castle/moat of security being best practice. Any IT person that thinks that if they see a device with an 10/8 (or 172.16/12 or 192.168/16) IP and think you're safe you should be fired: it's lazy thinking.
At least if you had a GUA address it would force you to pay more attention to the rest of your security controls. Just recently a co-worker retired some systems that were accessible to the outside via DNAT—but forget to clean up the firewall rules. So he then—for some fucking stupid reason—decided to re-use those same IPs, even though we had so many fucking other IPs available, and one of the boxes got compromised because it happened to have a simple, guessable password on the initial image install.
You do realize there are many people, especially younger folk, who will never have played or seen the media listed? And if they did not even noticed the symbol?
I’m older and have and I didn’t even know there was a special Nazi skull symbol while I do know about many of their other symbols.
Care to elaborate why? I'm just curious since I didn't know (1) there was actually any kind of serious usage, or (2) there was pushback from rescue team...
W3W is very aggressive about protecting their IP, they don't want it to be a standard anyone can use like lat/long.
They advertise it as being useful for search/rescue as you can provide a precise location over an unclear voice channel. They conveniently ignore that speaking numbers is clearer than speaking random words.
One reason is that there are a lot of similar words in the dictionary. It is easy to mishear the wrong location especially when they are close together. Some of the words are long and complicated. Another is that they are random which means can't navigate from the codes.
They are missing feature of some codes that can have variable length for variable precision.
Basically the company wants to make money off it so are pushing it and it’s problematic due to it being less easy to use then standard gps cords, words sound the same, and most people have no idea what it is (and nor should they learn lat long)
No just that factory farming animals maybe shouldn’t be allowed. I have no problem with eating free range animals that live outside and are humanly treated and slaughtered even if the price goes up. I do have a problem with animal abuse which factory farming is.
